Set within the remote Chorrillo Malo estancia in Argentine Patagonia, Explora El Calafate is an intimate new lodge surrounded by vast steppe, native forests and sweeping views towards Lake Argentino and the distant Perito Moreno Glacier. Opening in 2026, it offers a secluded base from which to discover the glaciers, valleys and dramatic landscapes of southern Patagonia.
The Lodge
Designed by Chilean architect José Cruz Ovalle, the lodge comprises just 20 rooms, with natural materials, organic forms and expansive windows designed to connect the interiors with the surrounding landscape. Outdoor hot tubs, massage rooms and inviting communal spaces provide a tranquil retreat after a day spent exploring the wilderness.
Amenities
Exploration is at the heart of the experience, with more than 30 guided activities included in every stay. Guests can hike across the Patagonian steppe, explore glacial landscapes, ride on horseback, venture out by overland vehicle or discover the region’s lakes and hidden valleys, with experiences tailored to different interests and fitness levels. The iconic Perito Moreno Glacier is also accessible from the lodge, offering another perspective on one of Patagonia’s most extraordinary natural landmarks. Back at the lodge, dining celebrates the flavours of Patagonia through local ingredients including lamb, trout, native herbs and seasonal produce. All stays include accommodation, meals and drinks, explorations, spa facilities, national park entrance fees and airport transfers, making the lodge a seamless base for experiencing the region.
With its remote setting, understated architecture and deeply immersive approach to exploration, Explora El Calafate offers a new way to experience the vastness of Argentine Patagonia – where the wilderness remains firmly at the centre of the stay.
